Geografia

Amministrativamente parte del mwfqGuangdong, è la maggiore isola della provincia (dal mwfg1988, quando mwfwHainan è andata a costituire una provincia autonoma). Dista mwga14 km dalla terraferma; si estende su una superficie di mwgq137,3 km² ed ha una lunghezza costiera di mwgg217 km; la sua popolazione ammonta a circa mwgw16 000 abitanti.

Storia

Dal suo nome derivò quello di mwhgSão João, datogli dai mwhwportoghesi. Il mwiagesuita mwiqFrancesco Saverio vi morì mentre tentava di entrare in mwigCina per allargare la sua opera missionaria.
